A long time ago, I published this because at one point I was an enthusiastic believer in the power of social media.
No longer.
I haven’t posted on Instagram for a while. This was my last post:

That was on March 4 of this year. I keep telling myself I should take more pictures and post more things, but I don’t have the energy or the enthusiasm. Instagram is basically a shitshow now. (My browser’s spell-checker didn’t like “shitshow” so I added it to the dictionary. I think I’m going to be using it a lot now going forward.) I would just like to see what the people I follow have posted recently.
Apparently, that’s not what Instagram wants me to see. I often see a promoted post or a recommended post before I see the post of someone I follow. Roughly two thirds of the posts I see are from people I don’t follow, but that Instagram would be dead chuffed if I did. I have a lot of thoughts about this, but it basically boils down to Instagram is so interested in telling me what it thinks I want to see that it’s forgotten I have a brain and I know what I want to see—the people I followed.
I don’t have time for this.
Anyway, I’ve pretty much given up on social media at this point. I did finally get a Mastodon account a few years ago and never did anything with it. But after seeing what a shitshow Instagram has devolved into, it’s my last hope, Obi-Wan. If you want, you can follow me at mastodon.social/@kjodle. I’ll see you there.
